Most people can safely go without food for 30 hours. However, children below 12 years old, pregnant or nursing women and those with medical conditions are NOT to attempt the full 30-hour fast. Children below 12 can participate in the 8-hour Kidz Famine. If you have any concerns about fasting, please consult your doctor before participating.
The minimum donation required per participant is:
- RM60 for children (aged 12 and below)
- RM100 for students/senior citizens (aged 55 and above)
- RM150 for non-students
The Famine Countdown provides a chance for DIY Camps to gather and count down the last 4 hours of their 30-hour fast together. With fun and educational activities lined up, it’s an event not to be missed. The Famine Countdown 2017 will be held from 12pm till 4pm on 30 July 2017 at Stadium Melawati, Shah Alam.

You will be given a donation booklet/box to raise funds for the beneficiaries of the 30-Hour Famine. You may only approach your family members, close relatives and friends to raise funds. Public soliciting is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
The 30-Hour Famine has been running in Malaysia for the past 18 years, and many people are aware of this campaign. It is the largest annual advocacy cum fundraising campaign in Malaysia. If your friends and family have not heard of it, tell them what the 30-Hour Famine is about using the guide on the back of your donation booklet and urge them to learn more through our website.
Yes, you can still take part in this global movement as an Individual Participant. Click here for more information on how to take part as an Individual Participant.
You need to be at least 18 years old, responsible, enjoy working with people, able to motivate others to join and willing to work to make your Camp a success.
You will organise your own DIY Camp – that means finding a venue, recruiting campers to join you in this global movement and raising funds for World Vision Malaysia. More details will be shared during the Camp Leader Training Workshops.
You need a minimum of 10 campers to run a DIY Camp. For camps of 500-1,000 campers, Camp Leaders must represent a school, registered organisation/society/company or religious institution and have previous experience in organising a DIY Camp.
For camps of more than 1000 Campers, the Camp Leader in addition to the above must be supervised by their superior (i.e. teacher/principal/supervisor/religious leader) who will act as his/her Vice Camp Leader.
Please note that Camp size is subject to World Vision Malaysia approval.
As soon as all funds have been computed and accounted for, you are ready to return the funds to World Vision Malaysia. The final date to return your funds and donation booklets is 4 July 2017.
You will experience the fulfilment of bringing change to the lives of many who are living in hunger and poverty. Most importantly, you will bring change to the campers, volunteers and yourselves! We will also issue you a certificate of acknowledgment for being a Camp Leader.
This option is tailored for those who would like to be part of this global movement but are unable to join a DIY Camp. Instead of fasting in a group, an Individual Participant makes a one-off donation and then chooses a date to personally fast the 30 hours. Individual participants may choose to join us for the last 4 hours of fasting at the Countdown.
Click here for details on being an Individual Participant.
Registration to be an Individual Participant closes on 4 July 2017.
We strongly encourage you to fast from solid foods to get a first-hand experience of what it means to be hungry. It will help you to identify with the children, families and communities we are assisting – in a way you will never forget.
You can do it at a time and place convenient for you.
If you would like to take the time to learn about the issues surrounding hunger and poverty, you can request for our 30-Hour Famine or 8-Hour Kidz Famine educational materials from World Vision Malaysia.
We would love if you would share what you learn and your fasting experience with your family members, friends, relatives and others. Encourage them to read up on our work if they have not heard about us.
